777 Post

I didn't plan any posts for today, and so I'm going to write a quick 777 Post. Basically, that is where the blogger posts from the seventy-seventh page of the book they are reading, seventh line, onwards. Then they post the seven lines after that. Excited yet?

At seven-thirty, Carl took Sonny to bed with a bottle and I read Stroma a story on the sofa. She curled herself up under the quilt, put her thumb in her mouth and started playing with my hair like she used to with Mum before. After a bit I untangled myself and kissed her on the forehead.
She said, 'Can we stay here tomorrow as well?'
Later, Bee and Carl and I were doing to washing-up. We were humming the same tune and doing a kind of dance around eachother just to get things done in the tiny kitchen. I didn't know where anything went because there weren't any cupboards.

Woah, TENSE, right? And those few lines were taken by the book, 'Broken Soup' by Jenny Valentine. I couldn't take it out last year because it was marked 13+, and you can't lie to the Librarians because they scan your fingerprint to check you are who you are. So I was well chuffed to finally get it out.

From what I've read, it's really good, if not a little confusing. It'd about a girl who's brother died (everyone dies in books, don't they?) and she's just trying to get over him. But then a mysterious stranger gives her a present- a photo of her brother. She'd never seen it before, yet he insists that it's hers.

I'm only on page 171 at the moment, so I can't really say anything else. Oh, except that it won the Guardian Children's Fiction Prize, is published by Harper Collins (who I want to publish with) and is only £5.99.

You're welcome for the information!

  2. I love broken soup! You'll love it :D But guess what? My Auntie's a primary school teacher and she was about to start reading it to her PRIMARY FOUR class! That's, like, 8 year olds! She double-checked with me, and I said an older class would be better!

  5. Woah, your librarians sound well scary! Ours don't bother about stuff like that...I mean, if an 11 year old walked past with Fifty Shades of Grey they'd probably step in, but still...
